Dean Vali: Talented Musician Offers Entertainment in a New Way
In the music industry there are not many that learn to pave their own way. It is a cut throat business that can make you or break you. Yet when you combine talent and the strength of family your chances are much greater to succeed. Dean Vali and the Vali family are one such example of perseverance.
Since Dean was a young boy he was always surrounded with the sounds of music. His father for one was an active musician who introduced Dean to the wonderful world of music. Dean’s father Gus Vali was a well known accomplished musician who earned his Masters from the Manhattan School Of Music. Gus soon took Dean under his wing and would show him the ropes. His father would soon form a Greek band that would pave the way for many more to come. The Greek community at the time did not have a band solely dedicated to their ethnic music for their events. Gus Valli filled that void.
When Dean graduated high school in Massachusetts he moved to New York in 1975 to join his father. At first he was not interested in joining his father in his business since he was interested in rock and jazz music. Dean got involved with a few Broadway shows like the “Little Shop Horrors” which offered him the experience he needed. To make ends meet he worked with his father on the weekends playing bass guitar in the band.
In turn Dean and his brother who was the drummer would take over for their father on certain bookings. This enabled Dean to be more “hands on” on the business end of the company. He began doing TV commercials and radio shows as a bass player and it offered him some great exposure.
As the musical landscape began to change so did Dean. Towards the mid-80’s people in the business soon began building their own home studios to cut costs. This opened another door for Dean to explore since the demand for live performances became scarce. Recording music became more affordable and people in the music industry began switching to this ideal. Dean’s father soon came to him to ask him to run the company since he was getting up in his years.
“I went into business with him which at the time the company was named after him, Gus Vali Inc. I became a full partner with my brother. It was mostly setting up weddings and corporate events.”
He soon decided to move away from the company and create his own vision. Dean soon started his own entertainment company called Bounce Entertainment. This was geared more towards high end events, galas and large weddings. The company Bounce Entertainment caters to every ethnic background. It is a diverse spectrum of entertainment not seen before.
“We wanted use thematic music with diverse productions to appeal to any client. Plasma screens, staging and any kind of elaborate backdrop.”
Most of his clients are event production houses that are full service management companies that hire him for the entertainment. He sends out all kinds of talent anything from jugglers to DJ’s. Examples of clients are Volkswagen, Edward Jones, The Hackensack University Hospital almost any corporate company in the US. He recently organized an event on the Intrepid which catered to one thousand guests who were entertained by a 1945 style band. Dean submitted the event to the International Special Event Society Of New York a prestigious organization that represents his industry.
In turn Dean’s company won the award for best entertainment program of the year. “We felt very proud of the award and it was a great honor.”
Dean is always searching for new kinds of talent to offer his clients. He judges by the call he gets and what is needed in turn he goes to his data base and searches for whom would be perfect for that event. Dean has done events on a worldwide scale not just solely in New York and New Jersey. The talent he uses can be used right away or for any upcoming events they need to be goal oriented and determined to please the client.
Even though Dean has always loved to play he has been on the more administrative end of the business lately. “I always love to play but I can not offer my time to it as I did before. That is why I have the talent to do that for me.”
Dean is always searching for new ways to expand his business and cater to any event in the best way possible. He is currently delving into the idea of being a full-time event planner on a larger scale. This way he would be able to offer everything from wait-staff to lighting.
“We want to always offer the best quality entertainment and services possible.”
